We speak Spanglish, Swenglish,
and other obscure dialects!

When you discover a beautiful place and meet wonderful people along the way, you can’t help but tell others about your experience.

We have found many such places, so we decided to put together a website where we can share our love for travel with those who are looking for down-to-earth experiences in different parts of the world. A lot of our personal adventures are carried out organically, with only a physical map and a compass to guide us. While we have encountered fellow travelers with a similar mindset, we understand that some of us would be more comfortable having a local guide traveling with them. Grassroots.Travel provides you with a starting point in your journey by connecting you with humble locals who are eager for you to experience their hospitality.

WHAT LED US HERE

A Lifetime and Still Learning

Between the two of us, we have a combined experience of over 40 years in the travel industry—from working in a 6-star resort in the Maldives and collaborating with major cruise lines out of Cabo San Lucas, to being part of the pioneer eco-tourism company in Baja California and exploring new destinations aboard a clipper ship in the Mediterranean.

The Good, the Bad, and the Reality

Through the years, we have witnessed over-the-top efforts by industry giants to ensure the happiness of their luxury clients. We have seen first-hand how foreign companies enter the local market by working with local operators, but eventually replacing them with in-house resources. We also know for a fact that mass market travel leaves very little revenue for local businesses.

Our Precious

After revisiting our core values and principles in life, we made the conscious decision to let go of the frills and focus on what matters. We choose to stay away from big crowds because we prefer to have quiet one-to-one conversations. We want to work with people who inspire us, just like the grandfather of eco-tourism in Baja continues to do so after his passing. (Tim Means, who put the “eco” in tourism, was the real deal.) We hope that through Grassroots.Travel, we’ll be able to give back to the local community in our own little way.
