We were very fortunate to have been able to reconnect with Antonio last year after having lost touch with him for 10 years. On one of our boat trips in the Sea of Cortez with him, while we were on our way to Espiritu Santo Island, a light bulb went off in our heads: Why not work together? We have known each other for a long time now, we love nature, and we share the same values in life.

It was partly due to our conversation with Tonio that the idea of working for ourselves took shape. We have the privilege of personally getting to know a lot of locals in our travels: humble, genuine individuals whom we’d like other people to meet as well. Based on our own local experiences with Antonio, we can’t recommend him strongly enough.

Regrettably, Tonio moved on before we could launch the Grassroots.Travel website and bring our idea to fruition. His unexpected passing left a huge void in us and in the local community. Needless to say, we will continue to move forward and carry on. We are committed to supporting Jesús, Antonio’s son, as he takes on the legacy that his father left behind.

Jesús is the go-to person for day excursions to Espiritu Santo Island, camping in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sport fishing in the Sea of Cortez, scientific trips, and other custom itineraries.
